Chicago White Sox trade Gillaspie to Angels for cash

If you're looking for a blockbuster Chicago White Sox trade, there is nothing to see here.

With the July 31 nonwaiver deadline only a week away, the Sox on Friday sent Conor Gillaspie to the Los Angeles Angels for cash considerations.

The White Sox designated Gillaspie for assignment on July 19.

In 58 games, the 28-year-old Gillaspie had a .237/.276/.364 hitting line with 3 home runs and 15 RBI. He also made 12 errors.

"It's always a tough decision, especially when you've got a kid like that where you know what he's capable of," manager Robin Ventura said after Gillaspie was designated. "You know, he's a much better hitter than what those numbers indicate. That's what makes it tough. He got off to the slow start."

Tyler Saladino has taken over at third base for Gillaspie, who is making $550,000 this season.

The Sox acquired Gillaspie from the San Francisco Giants in a 2013 trade for minor-league pitcher Jeff Soptic.
