Boomers take road series in extras

O'FALLON, Mo. - The Schaumburg Boomers rallied for a second consecutive night, notching a 12-inning 5-3 decision over the River City Rascals to win the road series.

Down 3-1, the Boomers rallied with a pair of homers to send the game to extras. Willi Martin nailed his first pro homer in the sixth and Alexi Colon evened the game in the seventh with a longball. Utilizing the international tiebreaker entering the 11th, Schaumburg was able to score the win with two runs in the 12th. Kyle Ruchim singled home international runner Craig Massey with the game-winning run. Colon provided insurance with his second homer of the game and third of the series.

Raul Jacobson did not factor in the decision despite matching a career high with seven innings. Jacobson retired the last 11 batters faced and tallied a career high eight strikeouts. Jake Joyce earned the win by working the final two innings, his first win of the season. The Boomers notched 12 hits for the first double-digit hit showing of the second half and connected on a season high three homers. Colon collected three hits with Ruchim and Valadez each posting a pair.

The Boomers (25-32) return home to face the Rockford Aviators on Friday night on Jimmy Buffett Night at Boomers Stadium featuring postgame fireworks.
