Lake in the Hills beach closed

Indian Trails Beach in Lake in the Hills is closed due to elevated bacteria levels, officials said Thursday.

The McHenry County Department of Health re-sampled the county's 38 licensed beaches following the recent heavy rains, and three beaches were closed, including Veterans Park in Island Lake and Wonder Center in Wonder Lake, a department news release said. The beaches will be sampled again Thursday.

Lake in the Hills officials said Butch Hagele Beach remains open.

All licensed beaches on the 12 lakes in McHenry County are tested every two weeks for E. coli throughout the summer, health officials said.
