Starbucks, store coming to Pompei site in Schaumburg

A new commercial building that will contain a Starbucks and a yet-to-be-determined retailer is being built at the southwest corner of Higgins and Meacham roads in Schaumburg this summer, on the former site of Pompei Little Italy restaurant.

The building is an outlot of the shopping center that includes a still vacant former Dominick's store at its east end. Schaumburg Economic Development Manager Matt Frank said plans are under way for a non-grocery retailer, which has not yet been named publicly, to move into the Dominick's site.

The new outlot building is being developed by First Rockford Group. Representatives could not be reached for comment on the expected opening of the Starbucks or the progress of finding a second tenant.

Schaumburg's other vacant Dominick's in Town Square, at the southwest corner of Schaumburg and Roselle roads, is being purchased by Itasca-based Tony's Finer Foods, which expects to close the sale on Friday.

The former Applebee's restaurant at Town Square is now under contract by a breakfast-lunch restaurant which hasn't yet been publicly named, Schaumburg Community Development Director Julie Fitzgerald said.
