Volunteers needed to help at Nunda Garden

Volunteers with a green thumb can help provide fresh produce for local residents struggling with hunger by getting involved with Nunda Garden.

Located at the Nunda Township office at 3510 Bay Road in Crystal Lake, Nunda Garden is a new community garden project started earlier this year with the goal of providing fresh produce to neighbors in need.

There will be an information session at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, where you can learn more about Nunda Garden and becoming a volunteer. The meeting will be in the Nunda Township Town Hall, 3510 Bay Road, Crystal Lake.

All produce harvested from Nunda Garden is distributed to Northern Illinois Food Bank, Crystal Lake Food Pantry and First Community Methodist Church Community Meal.

Volunteers are needed at Nunda Garden to help weed, mulch, edge and assist with harvesting. Contact Steve Mountsier at smountsier@yahoo.com to get involved, or visit the garden's page on Facebook.

Northern Illinois Food Bank leads the northern Illinois community in solving hunger by providing nutritious meals in need through innovative programs and partnerships like the one formed with master gardeners and members of the community in developing Nunda Garden. Crystal Lake Food Pantry and First Community Methodist Church Community Meal are two of the more than 800 community food pantries and feeding programs in Northern Illinois Food Bank's network, which provides food to 71,000 hungry neighbors each week across 13 counties.
