Registration is Now Open for the 2015 Long Grove Heritage 5K Run and 3K Walk

Registration is now open for 18th Annual Long Grove Heritage 5K Run and 3K Walk. The event will be held on Saturday, September 12th at Kildeer Countryside School, Long Grove.

The Race is organized by the Rotary Club of Long Grove, Kildeer and Hawthorn Woods. They anticipate approximately 1,000 preregistered runners and walkers. Walk-ins are encouraged the morning of the event. This typically adds another 100-200 people to the mix. Many more will be in attendance to cheer, to help, and to enjoy a sausage and pancake breakfast. Chick-fil-A Kildeer has signed on as a major sponsor this year, and will be providing a variety of breakfast sandwiches along with the traditional pancake breakfast. The Chick-fil-A cow (their mascot) will also be on hand for photo opportunities with the children.

Lyle Staab, Hawthorn Woods, who is Race Director for this year's event observed, "Last year was a great success, with over 800 participants raising more than $50,000 for local charities. We're expecting a larger turnout and result this year." In the eighteen years the Club has been sponsoring the event, they have raised approximately $300,000 for their Charitable Foundation as well as approximately $1,000,000 for the participating charities.

Registration may be made directly online at RotaryRace.org. Personal fund raising pages may also be created at the same time.

This year the charities working with Rotary on the event include:

*Barb's Precious Rescue and Adoption Center. Their mission is to create a safe and humane haven by providing medical attention, food, shelter, and love for cats that have been abused, abandoned or neglected.

*Beacon Place. They strive to feed, educate, activate, train and empower children and families in the North Chicago and Waukegan communities. They provide food and technology resources that will enable adults and children to develop as stronger individuals and as a community as a whole.

*Foster 2 Home. Dedicated to finding permanent homes for adoptable dogs of all breeds, mixes, sizes and ages at risk of being euthanized or homeless.

*The Christopher Steele Foundation. Supports institutions and individuals who are researching cures for brain tumors (with a particular emphasis on sarcomas).

*The Center On Deafness. Provides services to both children and adults who have hearing impairments with additional disabilities such as mental illness or developmental disabilities.

*Exodus World Service. Recruits local volunteers, equips them with information and training, and then links them directly with refugee families newly arrived in the Chicago Metropolitan area.

*Faith Acres Foundation is a food and clothing sharing pantry operation serving primarily McHenry and Lake County people in need.

* Mothers' Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes works to provide properly preserved human milk, primarily to premature and ill infants.

Other participating charities in the family oriented event are motivated by their desire to further a cause which arose from personal experiences:

*The Anthony James Brust Memorial Foundation provides a scholarship for technical training in honor of its namesake, who died in a motorcycle accident.

*The Center for Enriched Living provides equal opportunities for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities to fulfill their dreams through innovative, person-centered programming.

*PADS of Lake County, Inc. is dedicated to providing emergency shelter and supportive services to families with children and individuals who are experiencing homelessness in Lake County.
