Des Plaines principal steps down before he starts
The new principal of Orchard Place Elementary School on Des Plaines' south side has backed out of the job for family reasons, and now District 62 officials are looking for an interim principal to be in place when school starts next month. Jose Celis, principal of Pines Lake Elementary School in Wayne, New Jersey, was hired for Orchard Place on June 17 but has since changed his mind, according to Associate Superintendent Paul Hertel. District 62 officials are searching for an interim principal - perhaps a retired educator - for this school year and plan to name a permanent principal for the 2017 school year. Celis was hired to replace Julio Lopez, who is relocating to Texas.
