Mayor, community invited to hospital bed tower topping-off ceremony

DOWNERS GROVE - Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital officials invite the community to attend a topping-off ceremony for the hospital's new private room bed tower construction project.

Join hospital President David S. Fox and other local and hospital officials as a huge metal crane raises the final steel beam for the bed tower. Downers Grove Mayor Martin Tully and other village officials also have been invited. The event will take place at 2 pm July 30 at the hospital, 3815 Highland Ave. Visitors can park in the Parking A and B lots or the Parking D garage; free valet service also is available at the lower-level main entrance and Physician Office Center entrance.

Community members, hospital associates, volunteers and physicians and others already have signed their names on the beam.

A long-standing tradition in the construction industry, the raising of the final steel beam for the new bed tower signals the end of one phase of the building project. The ceremony dates back to the Vikings, who would place an evergreen tree on the top of a building for good luck.
