Lakefest promises three days of fun in Island Lake

Island Lake's annual Lakefest will offer a carnival all three days and one special night of fireworks, organizers said.

The festival, which begins Friday, July 24, and runs through Sunday, July 26, will be at Watertower Park at 439 W. Route 176.

Live music, carnival rides, a beer tent, and a craft fair will be some of the highlights of the weekend.

"People drive so far to go events, and I'm trying to bring the most fun I can to our town," village Trustee Mark Beeson said. "My goal is to drag people away from the television monitors and allow them to have a good time close to home."

The musical entertainment lineup for the weekend includes Wildwood Drive, Paul Zenello and the Almighty Combo, the Maz Boys, and the Bayview Beach Blues Band.

The fireworks show will take place at 9 p.m. Saturday, July 25.

Carnival food will be available throughout the weekend. There will also be a full ice-cream truck. Wristbands for unlimited carnival rides will be sold for use from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The festival opens at 4 p.m. Friday, July 24, and at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26.
