Woman accused of trying to bribe Elgin cops after 3rd DUI arrest

A 26-year-old woman made things worse after being charged with her third DUI in Elgin when she tried to bribe officers, according to a police report and court records.

Maria Alarcon, of the 1100 block of Denver Drive, Carpentersville, faces charges of aggravated DUI, DUI without a license or insurance, and offering a $2,000 bribe to police, records show.

Elgin police, who were investigating a possible hit-and-run, pulled over Alarcon at 10:30 p.m. Sunday on the 600 block of South Liberty Street, according to a police report.

Alarcon had glassy eyes, smelled of alcohol and a preliminary breath test, which is not admissible in court, resulted in a .185 blood-alcohol concentration, the report said.

While riding to the police station in the squad car, Alarcon is accused of repeatedly offering two officers $2,000 to let her go.

If it comes down to a she said/he said in court on the bribery charges, "in squad surveillance footage of said bribery was saved for further review," the police report noted.

If convicted of the most severe charge of aggravated DUI, Alarcon faces anywhere from probation to seven years in prison.

She is free after posting $5,000 bond and must wear an alcohol monitoring bracelet, records show. Alarcon is next due in court Wednesday.

Information about her previous two DUI arrests was not immediately available.
