Sheriff's K9 teams graduate training program

Submitted by the Lake County Sheriff's office

Three Lake County Sheriff's K9 teams recently graduated from an eight-week TOPS K9 Program. The K9 partners are trained to assist in searching for drugs, weapons and missing individuals. In addition, K9s may be used to detain fleeing suspects involved in serious offenses and to protect their law enforcement handlers.

The graduation was held at Living Waters Church in Grayslake. The graduating class included:

• Deputy Dwight Arrowood and Duke

• Deputy John Forlenza and Dax

• Deputy Craig Sommerville and Diesel

Since graduating, Deputy Arrowood and Duke guarded the Lake County Courthouse entry points. All three K9 teams will participate in random checks within the Lake County Jail and at the Lake County Courthouse. Other county facilities will be checked on a regular basis as well.

Deputies and K9s are assigned to patrols and serve as backup for highway patrol, criminal investigations, warrants and civil process.
