Stevenson student competes with U.S. Physics Team

Submitted by Stevenson High School

Jason Lu, a Stevenson High School junior from Lincolnshire, and the United States Physics Team tied for second place at the 46th International Physics Olympiad July 5-12 in Mumbai, India. Lu was one of five Americans selected for the team, which competed against top physics students from more than 80 nations.

In addition to the team honor, Lu also earned a silver medal in the individual competition. He had the 39th highest score among 263 students in the competition, which consisted of a five-hour theory exam and a five-hour experimental exam.

Lu was one of 20 students chosen in early May for the U.S. Physics Team from among approximately 4,300 students nationwide who took part in a rigorous exam process. The final five chosen for the International Physics Olympiad were announced in late May. He is the second Stevenson student in the last two years chosen for the team, joining Richard Zhu in 2014, but is the first to be selected for the five-person competition squad.

The other members of the U.S. Physics Traveling Team were Zachary Bogorad of Solon, Ohio; Adam Busis of Silver Spring, Maryland; Kevin Li of Princeton Junction, New Jersey; and Saranesh Prembabu of San Ramon, California.
