Learn about animal domestication July 25 at Garfield Farm Museum

Want to learn more about the domestic animals you know and love? Attend the animal domestication lectures at Garfield Farm Museum on Saturday, July 25, at 1 and 3 p.m.

The second lecture requires having attended the previous lecture. The 1 p.m. lecture, given by museum assistant Samira Bamberger, will provide a general overview of the history and process of animal domestication. The second lecture will cover more advanced topics.

The 1 p.m. lecture will include discussions on basic terminology, the domestication process, and the impact these animals have had on society.

The talk will also cover Garfield Farm's heritage livestock and how they have impacted modern breeds.

The 3 p.m. lecture will include discussions on more advanced terminology and processes. The talk will also cover domestication's impacts on modern breeding. Both lectures will conclude with an optional tour of the museum's historic livestock.

Garfield Farm Museum is a 375-acre historically intact former 1840s prairie farmstead and teamster inn that volunteers and donors are preserving as an 1840s living history museum. The museum is located at 3N016 Garfield Road, off Garfield Road in Campton Hills.
