District 300 to host back-to-school health clinics

Algonquin-based Community Unit District 300 and the Greater Elgin Family Care Center will host three back-to-school physical and immunization clinics next week in Carpentersville.

The clinics are open to all District 300 students to 18 years old. New and returning students can receive required school physicals and shots at a low cost.

Clinics are scheduled 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. July 28 at Perry Elementary School, 251 Amarillo Drive; July 29 at Lakewood School, 1651 Ravine Lane; and July 30 at deLacey Family Education Center, 50 Cleveland Ave.

Medicaid cards will be accepted. The cost for physicals and immunizations without Medicaid is $25. Payment can be made by cash or check. Walk-ins will be accepted, but appointments are encouraged by calling (847) 608-1344.

The requirements for school physicals and immunizations have changed. Students will not be allowed to attend class until all health requirements have been met.

Incoming kindergartners and sixth-graders must complete a school physical (or have proof of an appointment for a physical) and a complete record of immunizations by Aug. 1. Sixth-graders also must get a meningococcal vaccine.

Incoming freshmen must complete a physical (or have proof of a physical appointment) and incoming seniors must have a meningococcal vaccine (or have proof of an appointment to receive the vaccine) by Aug. 1.
