Kane County Cougars edge Rattlers with 1 run

One run was just enough for the Kane County Cougars to squeeze past the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday. The 1-0 win was the Cougars' seventh consecutive win and their 26th in the last 29 games.

Markus Solbach and Jon Perrin kept the ballgame scoreless through the first five innings.

It wasn't until Wisconsin's reliever Tyler Linehan took the mound in the sixth that the Cougars were able to pounce on a Timber Rattler mistake. With 1 out, Ildemaro Vargas reached on a throwing error from third baseman Sthervin Matos. After Cody Regis walked, Marty Herum drove an RBI double just over Brandon Diaz in center field to plate Vargas for the game's first and only run.

The Cougars had chances with the bases loaded and 1 out in the sixth and eighth innings, but missed out on both opportunities.

Solbach went seven innings for his third consecutive start, allowing no runs on 4 hits and 3 strikeouts. The German right-hander continued his winning streak that started May 9 with his eighth consecutive win.

Cody Geyer tossed a perfect eighth inning for the hold, before Zac Curtis notched his league-leading 21st save of the year with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth.
