Flood warning issued for Des Plaines River near Gurnee

The National Weather Service in Chicago issued a flood warning for the Des Plaines River near Gurnee effective through Monday, the village announced Sunday evening.

According to the monitoring station at Route 120 and the Des Plaines River, nearly 3 inches of rain fell during Saturday's storm, raising the river level. As of 1 p.m. Sunday, the river stage is at 6.9 feet. At 7 feet, flooding begins to impact the lowest areas near the river, according to the village.

Current predictions are that the river will crest at 7.1 feet and then begin to fall through Monday, the village reported.

According to the village, no action is currently needed, but officials will continue to monitor river levels and notify residents of further developments or actions as warranted. Any additional information will be distributed through the Village's website, www.gurnee.il.us, and its email Listserv.
