Police: Man tried to drag teen into woods near Lake Barrington

A 16-year-old girl was out jogging Friday in an unincorporated area of Lake Barrington when a man attempted to drag her into the woods, Lake County sheriff's police said.

The attack occurred about 3 p.m. on the 26000 block of Lakeland Drive. The girl told authorities the man grabbed her from behind as she jogged along the roadway near a wooded area. The girl wore headphones as she ran and did not hear the man approaching.

The girl successfully fought the man off as he tried to pull her into the woods, and he ran away. Once safe, she contacted her mother, who alerted the police. The girl suffered no serious physical injuries.

The attacker is described as a white man in his early 40s, standing about 5 feet, 9 inches, with light brown or blond hair. At the time of the attack, he wore a white T-shirt, black shorts and black gym shoes.

Police from three departments searched the area with the assistance of a K-9 unit but could not locate the offender.
