Jamey Johnson takes the stage Thursday night

Jamey Johnson will bring "true country" to the Kane County Fair when he performs in the grandstand Thursday night, according to promoter Bob Sauber of St. Charles.

"He's real country, not pop country," said Sauber, who also runs the bull riding event that performs at the fair. "(Johnson) is really an amazing performer and a great entertainer."

The Alabama-born singer-songwriter has won awards from the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association for his songs, "Give it Away" and "In Color."

He has also been nominated for three Grammys. Most recently, he was nominated for 2013's best country album award for his album, "Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran."

"He's never played up in this area before," Sauber said Wednesday. "It's going to be extravagant."

Larry Breon, the Kane County Fair's board president, said a lot of members of the community are excited for the country music star.

"We haven't had (a country performer) for a number of years," Breon said. "It'll be exciting. People are definitely looking forward to that."

Gates to the grandstand open at 6 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20. For information, visit www.kanecountyfair.com.
