Bicyclist killed in Waukegan hit-and-run crash

Waukegan police are searching for the driver of a car involved in a hit and run crash that killed a bicyclist on Washington Street, authorities said in a news release Thursday.

Police say Jack Henderson, 54, of Waukegan, was hit by a vehicle at 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, on eastbound Washington Street at Martin Avenue. Henderson was taken to Vista Medical Hospital in Waukegan, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect vehicle, described as a two-door green sedan, was last seen traveling east on Washington Street, police said. Authorities have released a picture of the suspect vehicle taken from a security camera in the area of the crash. The driver is wearing a red jacket or coat, police said.

No other details were immediately available, officials said.

If anyone has information on this crash, they are asked to call the Waukegan Police Department's Traffic Division at (847) 599-2631.

The Lake County Coroner's Office has been unable to locate any next of kin for Henderson, officials said. They ask that anyone related to the victim, or know someone who is, contact the office at (847) 377-2200.
