Juvenile charged in Carpentersville armed robbery

A juvenile has been charged after a Carpentersville man was beaten and robbed Wednesday, police said.

At 6:22 p.m., the man, who had agreed to meet and sell designer belts to customers, drove one offender to an area near Granada Road and Ensenada Drive in Carpentersville, police Cmdr. Erman Blevins said.

When they arrived, the man got out of his car and opened the trunk to display the belts when three other offenders approached him, Blevins said. One offender put a handgun to the back of his head and then struck him in the face with it, according to a news release. He was then beaten and kicked by the four offenders, authorities said.

Blevins said the man was not seriously injured and wasn't taken to the hospital. His wallet, which contained more than $2,000, was taken, officials said.

The juvenile offender, whose age was not given, was charged with aggravated armed robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and is awaiting a juvenile detention hearing at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center, authorities said.

The investigation remains open, and police are attempting to identify the other three offenders, Blevins said.
