New pizzeria to open in downtown East Dundee

A new pizzeria has been chosen to move into the vacant storefront at 310 River St. in downtown East Dundee.

LaTavola Ristorante & Pizzeria, operated by Dino Mondelli, will occupy the space that was once Pasquale's Pizzeria & Delicatessen, said building owner Tom Roeser, who is also president of Otto Engineering in Carpentersville.

Pasquale's, along with Sweet Pop Fizz at 320 River St., closed last month because of problems with management.

Roeser said Mondelli was one of several restaurant operators who inquired about moving into the location.

"People are seeing the revitalization of East Dundee as beneficial," he said. "We chose the operator who had the best track record and we felt would add to the neighborhood."

LaTavola will be the second restaurant owned by Mondelli, Roeser said. He also operates Dino's Pizza and Pasta in Lake in the Hills.

Roeser said the building is also under contract to sell to a new investor, Frank Tomasello.

This is the second development downtown that had been renovated by Otto and sold to an investor, Roeser said. West Dundee businessman Bob Contaldo purchased the building at 207 Barrington Ave. from Roeser earlier this year.

"This sale is the second investor that has 'voted with his wallet' that East Dundee is a good investment," Roeser said.
