Boomers All-Star Game draws record crowd

The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, saw 6,572 fans watch their 2015 Frontier League All-Stars perform admirably at Boomers Stadium. The new Frontier League All-Star Game record draw got to see Boomers players Eddie Cody, Craig Massey, Jordan Dean, and Michael Valadez play in front of the hometown fans.

Cody came in to pitch a scoreless second inning and recorded an inning-ending double play for the West Division, which won the game 4-2 over the East Division. West Division assistant coach and Boomers manager Jamie Bennett said Cody's inning helped set the tone for the game, and the West capitalized an inning later to take the lead and never look back.

"That's what Eddie Cody does," Bennett said of his star pitcher. "A couple of guys on base doesn't faze him, he's going to go out and pitch his game. Not afraid of anybody, he's going to go out there and get after guys. That was a big one putting up a zero there and letting us bounce back to score a couple of runs.

Entering later in the game as substitutions, Boomers rookie Craig Massey recorded a base hit in the sixth inning, his lone trip to the plate in the game.

Boomers second baseman Jordan Dean soon followed and recorded numerous defensive assists in his second Frontier League All-Star appearance. Veteran Boomers catcher Michael Valadez caught the final inning, a save for Normal's Race Parmenter.

"It's awesome having those guys around, they've done so much for our league the past couple of years," Bennett said. "Both of them are very well known for their defense and having them out there making plays, Valadez behind the plate at the end of the game was very fitting."

Michael Hur of the Rockford Aviators won the All-Star Game MVP while Kyle Brueggemann of the Aviators recorded the win. Traverse City Beach Bums pitcher Kramer Champlin drew the loss.

The Boomers (23-29) continue to defend their Frontier League title with a pair of road series to open the second half of the series. The Boomers return to Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg for a six game homestand versus the Aviators and the Joliet Slammers.
