District 300 to collect school supplies for students in need

Algonquin-based Community Unit District 300's annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive benefiting students in need is set for Saturday, July 25.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Wal-Mart at 1410 S. Randall Road, Algonquin, next to Algonquin Commons. A District 300 bus will be collecting donations and school supplies to support homeless students and students receiving free and reduced lunch who will attend district schools this fall.

Donations of school supplies sought include, folders, notebooks, loose leaf paper, pencils, pens, scissors, glue sticks, rulers, crayons, colored pencils, markers, and gender neutral backpacks. The donations will then be organized by district officials, placed inside individual backpacks, and distributed to students in need.

"Every year, the District 300 community provides overwhelming support during our Stuff the Bus event," said Shelley Nacke, assistant superintendent of educational services. "The community's generous donations assist our neediest students, providing valuable resources that support the success of District 300's central mission: to ensure all students are college or career ready upon graduation."

Anyone unable to attend the Stuff the Bus event may drop off donations from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday at the front desk of the District 300 Central Office, 2550 Harnish Drive, Algonquin. Donations checks may be made out to "CUSD 300" and mailed to Education Services, District 300 Central Office, 2550 Harnish Drive, Algonquin, IL 60102. Write "Stuff the Bus" in the check's memo line.
