MCC, Aurora University create nursing partnership

McHenry County College and Aurora University have inked a deal allowing MCC's nursing students to seamlessly transition toward earning a bachelor's degree in nursing at Aurora.

Students in MCC's associate degree program in nursing can complete the prerequisites for Aurora University's registered nurse to bachelor's degree in nursing program over six semesters and three summers of coursework at the Crystal Lake college.

"I believe this is a great opportunity for our students to complete their BSN degree right after they finish their RN at MCC," said Tony Miksa, vice president of academic and student affairs.

MCC's associate degree program prepares students to pass the national licensing examination, National Council of State Boards of Nursing Examination, and to be licensed as a registered nurse.

Partnership benefits include guidance from the nursing faculty and advisers at both institutions. Tuition is locked in at the rate effective at time of matriculation in Aurora University's program.

Students also can take required bachelor-level courses at Aurora while completing their associate degree at MCC.

Upon successful completion of the bachelor's degree program, nurses in the partnership may continue their education in Aurora University's master's degree program in nursing if they meet admission requirements.

"Aurora University is very pleased to join in a strategic nursing partnership with MCC," said Donna DeSpain, vice president for enrollment. "Increasingly, hospitals and other health care agencies are looking to hire BSN-prepared nurses. Our new partnership will serve students, the Woodstock community and all of greater McHenry County."
