Elgin book release event for Harper Lee's 'Go Set a Watchman'

Gail Borden Public Library's A Toast to Harper Lee book release event for Lee's new book "Go Set a Watchman" attracted about 30 people Tuesday night in Elgin.

Some came to check out a reserved copy of the novel, while others purchased their own copies from a Barnes & Noble Booksellers purchasing table. Guests then settled in to watch the 1962 movie classic "To Kill a Mockingbird" starring Gregory Peck; a book discussion followed.

Alexis Dussard, 16, of Elgin came to check out a copy of the new novel after recently reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" in school.

"I just liked how realistic the book was - how it related to your personal life and how factual the information was that made you feel like you were actually in the book," she said of Lee's iconic first novel. "And just the great word choices she had."
