Kids' author to sign newest book in Grayslake

G.M. Moore, author of the popular "Up North Adventure" series, will be selling and signing copies of her latest action-adventure book, "Ghosts of Manitowish Waters," Saturday, July 18, at Saddlebrook Farms in Grayslake.

Moore will attend the retirement community's Summer Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the property's lake house.

The author expands her repertoire of children's outdoor adventure novels with "Ghosts of Manitowish Waters," the author's first young adult offering.

"I had the idea for 'Ghosts' after a school visit," Moore explained from her home near Chicago. "A class of sixth-grade boys wanted me to write an action-adventure love story. Go figure. I couldn't quite wrap my head around Pike and Griffy (characters in the "Up North" trilogy) having girlfriends, so 'Ghosts' was born."

The new novel targets ages 13 and older, and its central storyline revolves around a herd of mystical albino deer.

"I had read about herds of albino deer roaming the Manitowish Waters area of Wisconsin," Moore said. "I became fascinated by the Indian lore surrounding them. They are such magical creatures that I had to use them in a book, and 'Ghosts' gave me the perfect opportunity do to so."

Moore is also the author of "Muskie Attack," "Ancient Elk Hunt" and "Snakehead Invasion," all part of the "Up North Adventure" series that has placed the author in Amazon's Top 100 listings. The children's trilogy targets ages 9-12 and will also be available at the event.
