Parade marches on despite canceling of Railroad Days

Construction projects in West Chicago's Reed-Keppler Park knocked the city's annual Railroad Days celebration off the tracks this year, but city and park district officials were determined to save at least some of the fest's main attractions.

One of those events, the Railroad Days parade, stepped off Sunday afternoon with the usual assortment of bands, horseback riders, members of area civic groups and government officials. Mayor Ruben Pineda served as grand marshal for the procession that followed a milelong route before ending up in Reed-Keppler for a post-parade picnic.

Railroad Days pays tribute to the city's roots as a rail town. Organizers say they're hoping to bring back a revamped version of the full festival next year.
