Learn about Elgin's Latino history at program

"Reflections: Elgin Flowing Through Time, The 1920s-1970s" continues through Aug. 1 around Elgin.

• Learn about the "Hispanic History of Elgin" from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at Senior Services, 101 S. Grove Ave. in Elgin. How and when did Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, and other Latin Americans arrive in Elgin? What do you know of Elgin's Latino history? Relive the memories of Elgin's early Latino residents, and share some of your own. You also will have an opportunity to get your picture taken to be part of the digital archive, "Elgin Area Memories." Enjoy folkloric dance by Senior Services own Latino group. Invite your friends and family and bring any memorabilia - pictures of family, friends, or Elgin, newspaper clippings, restaurant menus - you would like to share. Visit www.gailborden.info.

• Enjoy "An Evening with Revolver: How The Beatles Re-Imagined Rock 'N' Roll in the Studio 1967-1970" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, in the Elgin Room at Gail Borden Library. Join award-winning Beatles scholar and author Robert Rodriguez as he explains how The Beatles broadened their artistry into uncharted waters by using the studio as a tool to achieve sounds heretofore only heard inside their own heads. Performance and promo clips, rare photos and unreleased audio of the group at work showcase their success just before the split. Registration is required. Visit www.gailborden.info.

• The Brown Bag Lunch series continues at noon Thursday, July 16, with "Glimpses of Old Elgin" with local historian Jerry Turnquist at the Elgin History Museum, 360 Park St. in Elgin. He will reveal Elgin's early history using the memories of Charles Gregory, a writer of the newspaper column "Do You Remember" written in the 1920s. The talk will end with a compiled "Do You Remember" moments of Elgin from the 1940s-1970s. Cost is $3 or free for historical society members. • The Antique and Vintage Car Show will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 19. Antique Thunderbird and Mustang cars from the 1950s and '60s will be on display in the parking lot of the Elgin History Museum, 360 Park St. in Elgin. This classic all car show is sponsored by the Chicagoland Thunderbird Club and Mecom Mustangs. This year's show also will include some vintage cars from the local Model T Car Club. The museum will be open for the public to enjoy two floors full of exhibits on Elgin history. Refreshments will include an ice cream social for everyone.
