Schamburg Boomers sweep doubleheader

The Schaumburg Boomers swept a doubleheader with the Normal CornBelters on Thursday night to win the series with victories of 11-4 and 3-0.

The first contest saw the Boomers storm out of the gates, scoring three two-out runs in the top of the first. Craig Massey, named to the All-Star team before the game, notched a two-run double and Kyle Ruchim followed with an RBI single. The lead reached 5-0 behind a pair of two-out run scoring hits in the second from Mike Schulze and Massey. Normal pulled within 8-4 but a two-run homer from Jordan Dean put the game out of reach. Dean tallied four hits and scored five times in the victory. Brett Mabry allowed just one earned run, but left following four innings. Hideyoshi Otake won in relief.

Raul Jacobson pitched the Boomers to a game two win and a doubleheader sweep. Jacobson earned his first win as a professional by limiting the top offense in the league to just six hits. Jacobson threw a career high seven innings, striking out six. Alexi Colon provided the offense, recording a two-out two-run single in the third. Dean added an RBI single in the fifth.

Schaumburg (22-26) will head into the All-Star break after three home games this weekend with the Florence Freedom. RHP Edwin Carl (1-4, 4.36) takes the ball in the 6:30 p.m. opener on Superheroes Night opposite RHP Chuck Weaver (3-1, 3.56).
