End of dispute paves way for larger Des Plaines gas station

The expansion of a Speedway gas station on Des Plaines' south side can move forward now that a private property dispute has been resolved between the gas station owner and its neighbor.

Speedway plans to demolish its existing convenience store and build a new, larger store on its property at 885-911 Touhy Ave., while moving the location of fuel pumps and improving vehicle traffic circulation. Approvals paving the way for the expansion were held up at the city council while Speedway officials and the neighboring 999 Touhy building owner argued over a reciprocal easement agreement regarding parking.

Both parties this week credited City Manager Mike Bartholomew with bringing them together to resolve the dispute. Speedway will abandon the easement, agreeing to deed 11 feet of property to the 999 Touhy building for more parking, while also sealcoating and restriping their lot.
