Students painting sports-themed mural in Rosemont

A muralist and Rosemont student-artists have begun painting a sports-themed mural on the sides of buildings adjacent to a new turf field next to the Barry Recreation Center.

The mural is being painted on the sides of the village public works facility, a newly constructed salt dome, and a concrete block connecting wall. The village hired Chicago artist Rahmaan Statik Barnes to design the mural and work with student apprentices employed by the village to paint it.

It's the third mural Barnes has worked on in the Rosemont neighborhood north of the Allstate Arena. Last summer, he created a mural of Mexican history and culture next to the rec center's parking lot, and a Chicago Wolves mural on the side of a building near the stadium parking lot.
