South Elgin volunteer to talk about Tanzanian school July 14

Jennifer Oswald will share her experience as a volunteer in Arusha, Tanzania, with the Elgin Noon Kiwanis on Tuesday, July 14.

Oswald is a 2011 graduate of South Elgin High School and a 2015 graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University.

She arranged her experience through A Broader View Volunteers, a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization created in 2007. The organization arranges volunteer abroad programs for spring break journeys, gap year trips, humanitarian mission trips and Peace Corps alternative programs.

Oswald volunteered at Good Hope School in Arusha for four weeks in June 2015.

The Kiwanis Club of Elgin, now in its 95th year, received its charter March 9, 1920, and serves the Kiwanis International mission, to change the world one child at a time, one community at a time. In that time, the Elgin noon club donated more than one million dollars to organizations in Elgin and South Elgin.

Anyone interested in joining the club is invited to attend a weekly lunch meeting, held at noon each Tuesday at The Grumpy Goat Tavern, 875 Sports Way, Elgin, at the Highlands Golf Course. For information, call Karen Maki, (847) 695-7589.

Get your tickets for the Kiwanis' 56th annual Fay's Pork Chop and Chicken Barbecue Dinner, set for Saturday, Aug. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. in front of Advocate Sherman Hospital, 1425 N. Randall Road in Elgin. It is dine-in, carryout, or drive-through. Tickets are $14. Order now and your tickets will be mailed to you prior to July 25.
