West Dundee Trustee Wilbrandt to run for state rep

West Dundee Trustee Dan Wilbrandt will run for state representative for the 66th district in 2016, he announced Wednesday.

As a trustee, Wilbrandt is the liaison between the board and the police and fire departments, as well as the QuadCom and Joint Emergency Telephone System boards. Wilbrandt, a Republican, also is an assistant state's attorney in McHenry County.

"There are issues facing McHenry and Kane counties. The 66th District needs a state representative that will represent the entire district," he said in a statement. "I look to continue my public service to both counties."

Wilbrandt said he believes the state of Illinois has taken a significant step forward with the election of Gov. Bruce Rauner.

"A state representative from the 66th district must go to Springfield ... to push forward meaningful reform and begin the financial turnaround in Illinois," he said.

Last week, Republican McHenry County Board member Carolyn Schofield, of Crystal Lake, announced her candidacy for the 66th district House seat. East Dundee Trustee Allen Skillicorn, also a Republican, has expressed interest in running for state representative as well, though he has not yet officially announced his candidacy.

Republican Mike Tryon, current state representative since 2005, recently announced that he will not be running for re-election next year.
