Union Station construction means changes for BNSF riders

Side effects of Amtrak fixing outdated switches at Union Station could affect commuters as Metra warns BNSF Line riders should check for platform changes Tuesday.

Amtrak started work this week on replacing six major switches just south of Union Station under the new post office building.

Metra officials have advised riders to expect minor delays and some platform shifts during the project, which is expected to last through Labor Day.

The repairs will mostly affect Tracks 2 through 14. BNSF, Heritage Corridor and SouthWest Service passengers will be affected.

A Metra advisory told riders that outbound trains might not depart from their usual platforms.
