Kansas carries on at Elk Grove Village concert

Kansas, known for hits such as "Dust in the Wind" and "Carry On Wayward Son," kicked off the first of four free Elk Grove Village concerts on Tuesday nights in July.

The village's seventh annual Mid-Summer Classics Concert Series, held on the Village Green between the municipal complex and library, actually got an early start this year over Fourth of July weekend: Kenny Rogers performed last Saturday at Lions Park in advance of a fireworks show.

Next Tuesday in Elk Grove, .38 Special takes the stage, followed by Travis Tritt on July 21, and Christopher Cross and Air Supply on July 28. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. At the last show, Christopher Cross is expected to begin at 7:30 p.m. and Air Supply at 9:15 p.m.

The village is paying $310,000 and the park district contributing $50,000 for performers' fees. The village is using revenues from the hotel-motel tax, cigarette tax and gaming tax, along with corporate sponsorships.
