New locations, names for Arlington Heights hotels

Visitors to the south end of Arlington Heights will see some changes in the hotels that populate the area near Arlington Heights and Algonquin roads.

The Holiday Inn at 2120 S. Arlington Heights Road closed and reopened as a Comfort Inn last month, and a new Holiday Inn Express opened across the street at 2111 S. Arlington Heights Road in the former Jameson Suites.

Representatives from Holiday Inn Express were in front of the Arlington Heights village board on Monday to receive approval for a 106.5-square-foot sign on the six-story building facing south.

The large sign was on the hotel's previous location, but owners needed approval for the new hotel because the sign is larger than what is normally allowed by village code.

Charles Perkins, director of planning and community development, said the owners have been doing major exterior and interior renovations to the new Holiday Inn Express.

"I've been monitoring your progress the past couple of months, it looks great," said Trustee John Scaletta. "We can always use quality hotel rooms for the village."

The new Holiday Inn Express opened about two weeks ago and has 111 rooms and a free shuttle to and from O'Hare International Airport.

The area of Arlington Heights Road near the Jane Addams Tollway is home to several other hotels, including Red Roof Inn, DoubleTree by Hilton-Chicago, Motel 6, Courtyard Chicago Arlington Heights South and Wingate by Wyndham Arlington Heights.
