Mundelein parade honors 100 years of fire protection

Honoring 100 Years of Fire Protection was the theme of Sunday's Mundelein Community Days parade.

"I love it because we have over 30 fire trucks this year," said parade Chairman Vern Lappe. "We have a very special one here. A fire truck that went to New York for 9/11. They used it and sent it back where Schaumburg restored it."

The parade consisted of 131 vehicles. Among the participants were politicians, pageant queens, scout troops, local businesses, drill teams, marching bands and more.

The annual parade down Hawley Street was one of the highlights of the annual four-day Mundelein Community Days festival, which also featured a fireworks show.

Sunday's activities started with a pancake breakfast, followed by storytelling, face-painting, a balloon artist, carnival, food and a juggler. Live music included Rico and Final Say.
