Hospital system touts year's worth of achievements

The Cook County Health & Hospitals System has released "CCHHS: A Year in Review," summarizing achievements in the past 12 months. Highlights include: CountyCare, a permanent option for people enrolling in Medicaid now has about 180,000 members; a reduction in uninsured patients from 54 percent in 2013 to 32 percent today; a decrease in unreimbursed care costs from more than $500 million in 2013 to $342 million in 2014; enrolling more than 12,000 detainees at the Cook County Jail in Medicaid and launching a central campus redevelopment that includes new clinical space, office space and parking solutions on the West Side Stroger campus. "CCHHS is truly a case study for delivery on the promise of national health care reform," said CEO Dr. Jay Shannon. "All we achieved ensures the health system can continue in its historic mission to care for all in need, regardless of their ability to pay."
