Sale, White Sox top Buehrle, Blue Jays

Chris Sale didn't get the record, but the Chicago White Sox got the win.

The latter has always been more important to Sale, who came up short Monday night in his bid to strike out 10 or more batters in 9 straight starts.

The White Sox rallied to beat Mark Buehrle and the Blue Jays 4-2 at U.S. Cellular as Sale (7-4) pitched a complete game and struck out six.

Sale remains tied with Pedro Martinez for the all-time record with 10 or more strikeouts in 8 straight starts.

Trailing 2-1 in the eighth inning, the Sox scored 3 runs off Buehrle (9-5).

Jose Abreu's RBI single tied the game and Melky Cabrera followed with a 2-run double.

The crowd of 24,593 enjoyed the pitching matchup against Buehrle, who pitched for the White Sox from 2000-11.

Sale was initially scheduled to start Sunday but was given an extra day of rest.

"He didn't get changed just because Mark is throwing," manager Robin Ventura said. "But the fact that Mark is throwing on Monday, now it becomes a nice side note to having a guy that was a mentor when the kid first came up. There were a lot of guys here that played a part in Chris and Mark is one of those guys."
