Low-Cost Computer Classes Available at Library

A wide selection of adult computer classes ranging from $9 to $17 for two-hour sessions are available from the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg. Classes take place in the Computer Lab on the library's second floor. All require registration and pre-payment. Seniors age 50 and older pay $9 per class, while adult residents of Schaumburg Township pay $12 per class. The charge for non-residents is $17 per class. The following classes are available for registration during July and August.

Basic classes include Windows 8.1, for managing files and folders, installing new programs and changing backgrounds; as well as Word-Level 1, for creating a variety of documents, such as resumes, letters and manuscripts. Level 1 of the Excel class teaches participants to create a spreadsheet, enter basic formulas and create basic charts. The Excel Charts class helps users create more types of charts and customize them. The library additionally offers Excel classes that specialize in data analysis, dates and logic, formatting spreadsheets, and formulas and functions. Other classes offered include Access, for creating lookup lists, queries and validation rules; Photoshop, for editing digital photos and illustrations; and PowerPoint, for creating slideshow presentations. Adults are also invited to take classes in desktop publishing and creating websites.

Those who need help with using Android or OIS-based cell phones and tablets are welcome to take classes focusing on basic usage, functions, apps, and more. Persons attending these classes should bring their devices for an interactive experience.

For a full listing of classes with dates and times, see the library's June-July Program Guide, available in the library or online at schaumburglibrary.org; or the August-September Program Guide, which will be mailed to Schaumburg Township residents in late July.
