Two West Chicago students honored by Illinois Reads

Two West Chicago Community High School students were named the grand prize winner and runner-up of the Illinois Reads-I Love Reading Essay Contest sponsored by the Illinois Reading Council.

Senior Jacob Urban of West Chicago took first place and Raven Range, a junior from West Chicago, was the runner-up. The contest invited all Illinois students to write an essay, up to 500 words, explaining why they love to read. There were more than 350 submissions in the grade 6-12 category.

"Our goal is simple - we want to encourage everyone to develop and sustain a love for reading," said IRC Project Chairman Tammy Swinford-Potts, who is also the founder of the Illinois Reads Program.
