CLC Foundation with banner year from golf outing

College of Lake County Foundation had a banner year in proceeds from an annual golf outing this year.

The annual golf classic, in honor of Richard J. Galla, was held June 1 at the Ivanhoe Golf Club in Fremont Township. It generated about $60,000 for CLC student scholarships, according to Karen Schmidt, executive director of the foundation.

Schmidt said the 2015 event generated twice the net revenue compared to the previous year and drew 148 golfers, nearly double the number of golfers last year. In addition, many Lake County dignitaries attended, including elected officials and members of the CLC board of trustees.

"The success of our golf classic is due to the leadership of the foundation golf committee members Rob Hauswirth (committee chair), David Galla, Bob Werdan and Darrell Katz," Schmidt said.

Galla was president of R.J. Galla Company Inc. He was an avid golfer and longtime supporter of the College of Lake County.

"CLC was my father's lifelong passion. He believed in the importance of a college education, that is why he set up a scholarship in my parents' name. Seeing you all here today keeps his legacy alive," said David Galla, president of R.J. Galla Company, son of Richard J. Galla and a CLC Foundation board member.

The event featured three $10,000 cash hole-in-one prize contests and three car hole-in-one prizes.

College of Lake County Foundation raises money to fund scholarships and grants that provide students an opportunity for a better future. Through these efforts, the foundation strengthens the vitality and well-being of the diverse communities served by the college.
