Volo woman charged in 3 bank robberies

A Volo woman was indicted in federal court yesterday and charged in connection with three robberies or attempted robberies at Chase banks in northern Illinois earlier this year, including one in Grayslake. Full story.

Police, FBI investigating Mount Prospect bank robbery

Mount Prospect police are investigating a Monday afternoon robbery at First Merit Bank. The First Merit Bank branch, 2100 S. Elmhurst Road, was robbed just after noon Monday, police said, by a man who entered the bank, approached a teller window and grabbed an undisclosed amount of money while the teller was counting money. Arlington Park plans bigger fireworks show

Arlington Park will light up the sky with fireworks on July 4 in a display that will spread so far across the infield officials are enforcing crowd control measures to ensure safety. "The fireworks will be moving across a wider fall zone, with higher altitude and a broader range," Arlington Park Manager Tony Petrillo said yesterday. Full story.

Blackhawks trade star forward Saad to Blue Jackets

In a stunning move, Blackhawks manager Stan Bowman traded burgeoning star forward Brandon Saad to the Columbus Blue Jackets yesterday afternoon in a seven-player trade that wasn't foreseen by anybody outside either team. Saad, 22, was sent to Columbus along with forward prospect Alex Broadhurst, a Chicago-area native, and defense prospect Michael Paliotta, who signed with the Hawks this past season after completing his college eligibility at the University of Vermont. Rozner: Chicago Blackhawks, Saad feel salary-cap pain again.

A very happy and sweaty Brandon Saad stood on the ice after the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup two weeks ago and talked about never wanting to leave. "For me, it's all about winning and I don't want to be anywhere else but here," Saad said as his teammates danced about the ice with family and friends, taking pictures and swapping hugs.
