Holiday festivals to open Wednesday in Northwest suburbs

The Fourth of July is drawing near, which means the Northwest suburbs are thick with carnivals, live music, games, corn dogs and all the other trappings of outdoor festivals.

Frontier Days in Arlington Heights, the Lions Club Festival in Mount Prospect and Northwest Fourth-Fest in Hoffman Estates open Wednesday in the early evening. On Thursday, the Palatine Hometown Fest and the Bartlett and Barrington Fourth of July festivals open.

Watch the Daily Herald for fest schedules, main stage acts and festival hours. And here's a tip: If you can't wait until July 3 or 4 for fireworks, the first show is Wednesday night in Mount Prospect.
