Aurora teen facing weapons charges

A teenager from Aurora is facing three felony weapons charges, police said.

The 17-year-old male, who is being held at the Kane County Juvenile Detention Center in St. Charles, is charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one count of possession of a stolen firearm, according to a news release. Because of his age, the boy's name has not been released.

Police said the boy was taken into custody about 5 p.m. Monday after a vehicle in which he was a passenger was pulled over because someone in the car fired a BB gun. No one was injured, and the three other teenagers in the car were released to their parents, according to the release. Police found two BB guns in the vehicle, but no charges were filed related to that discovery.

Police also found a handgun in the car that had been reported stolen after a June 25 home burglary on the 2300 block of Goldenrod Court.

One of the charges for unlawful use of a weapon stems from an aggravated assault at home on the 600 block of North Elmwood about an hour before the boy was arrested. Police said an occupant of that home flashed a gun and yelled gang slogans at a group of people standing in a yard on that block.

The boy also is accused of firing a weapon around 7:53 p.m. Sunday on the 800 block of Foran Lane, then running away with another person. Nothing was hit, police said, and they are still investigating.
