Sleepy Hollow police join in Torch Run benefits

The Sleepy Hollow Police Department has planned a summer full of fun to benefit for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

These events are being held in cooperation with Randy's Vegetables Farm Stand, Rutland-Dundee Fire Protection District and Cruisin' Bar and Eatery.

• The Sleepy Hollow Police Department, Rutland-Dundee Fire Protection District and Cruisin' Bar and Eatery are sponsoring the "Cruisin' Forward for Special Olympics" car show from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 5, in the parking lot of the restaurant, 11 Galligan Road in Gilberts. Sign-in will begin at noon.

The event will raise money for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Teams of 10 able-bodied souls will compete to pull a fire engine 25 feet for the best time.

The winning team members will receive a trophy. In addition to the car show, there will be food, 50/50 raffle, raffle for a 2015 Harley Davidson, and Law Enforcement Torch Run merchandise for sale.

• Randy's Vegetable Stand and the Sleepy Hollow Police Department will hold its fifth annual Corn Roast for Special Olympics on Sunday, Aug. 16, at Randy's, 15N440 Randall Road in Sleepy Hollow. Last year's benefit for Special Olympics raised $10,285.

Registration for the car show will be 9 a.m. to noon, followed by voting from noon to 1 p.m. and awards from 2 to 3 p.m. The car show fee is $20, with trophies for five classes, three trophies per class, as well as specialty and Best of Show trophies.

The first 35 cars will be parked on grass, with 36 to 50 parked on blacktop and more than 50 parked on compacted gravel.
