Dawn Patrol: Pride Parade a 'victory lap'; St. Charles cyclist dies during fundraiser

Suburban gay couples say marriage equality makes Pride Parade sweeter

Throngs of people of all colors of the rainbow, their faces beaming, voices cheering, and chests puffed out, walked and danced through the streets of Chicago's Boystown neighborhood Sunday for the 46th annual Pride Parade. The festivities this year were more poignant for the hundreds of thousands who attended the parade coming on the heels of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling Friday that grants same-sex couples the right to marry in all 50 states. "It's great and a blessing," said Courtney Christophe, 19, of Arlington Heights. "It feels so great that I can move to any state that I want to and I can get married. It also gives people more room for acceptance of us." Full story. Also see Arshbishop Blase J. Cupich's statement here.

St. Charles cyclist dies after collapsing during Bike MS event

Joe Kresach could describe his friend and cycling teammate Jeff Ruhl in many ways: an excellent snow and water skier, an avid bike rider, a lover of hiking and camping. But most importantly, Ruhl was a husband, a father, a grandfather and a dedicated friend, Kresach said. Ruhl, 56, of St. Charles died Sunday after he collapsed while riding in Bike MS: Tour de Farms 2015, a weekend-long biking event in DeKalb hosted by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Ruhl was on the second day of the 150-mile ride with his team, LoBaMa. Kresach and Ruhl grew up together in South suburban Hazel Crest. He called Ruhl "a dedicated friend with a number of friendships going back 50 years." Full story.
