Chicago Executive Airport to host Rock 'n' Run the Runway Friday
Most days, only the planes at Chicago Executive Airport get to run along the main runway and taxiways.
On Friday, July 3, people will get their turn at the "Rock 'n' Run the Runway" event.
A 5K and 1-mile walk will begin at 8 a.m. Later at 5 p.m., the event will continue with live music, food trucks, a beer tent and a display of aircraft. A fireworks show will begin at 9:15 p.m.
Registration for the race ends July 2. It costs $40 to participate. There is no fee for the music and fireworks shows. Race packets can be picked up on July 1 and 2 at the Wheeling Park District Community Recreation Center, 333 W. Dundee Road.
Proceeds will benefit the Papa Scholarship And Safety Foundation, a fund of the Chicago Executive Pilots Association.
The band Midnight will perform from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., followed by And Beyond from 8:15 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
