Schaumburg Boomers fall in finale

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Schaumburg Boomers made a ninth inning rally but fell 4-3 to the Traverse City Beach Bums in the series finale on Sunday.

Schaumburg scored twice in the ninth against Traverse City closer Andrew Brockett to tie the game. Brockett had not allowed a run all season. Jordan Dean opened the rally with a single and Craig Massey followed with a walk. With 2 outs, Alexi Colon singled home 2 to even the score at 3-3. Schaumburg Joel Hutter led 1-0 in the contest, scoring in the first on a single from Hutter. Traverse City was able to respond, winning the game and series with a bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth.

Peter Gehle made his Schaumburg debut on the mound, allowing 3 runs in four innings. Evan Boyd tossed three blank frames and Kamakani Usui spun the eighth. Hideyoshi Otake suffered the loss. The Boomers managed just 5 hits entering the ninth but finished with 9 in the game. Dean and Hutter tallied 2 each.

Schaumburg (16-23) returns home to begin a six-game stint against the Frontier Greys at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
