Swedish Days parade is at 1 p.m. Sunday in Geneva

Great weather meant huge crowds Saturday at Swedish Days in downtown Geneva. The 66th annual festival wraps up Sunday, and includes the 1 p.m. parade down State Street.

In addition to the live music, carnival, theatrical performances and historical education, Swedish Days includes a revamped beer garden and local brewing companies.

Saturday began with the Swedish Pancake Breakfast at Geneva Lutheran Church, the 45th Granquist Music Competition and the 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Third Street. Friends Max Medernach, Daniel Williams and Ben Wilson, all 11 and from South Elgin, drafted their three-man team just 24 hours before the tournament and advanced into the finals.

At Swedish Väst, the corner of South Fourth and State streets morphed into a miniature Sweden on Saturday and will be in operation Sunday. There, visitors will find shops, treats, artists and Vikings under a large tent.

Dressed as a Viking, Garett Schweikhofer of Batavia was on hand to welcome and pose with visitors for photos. He even had a pile of extra helmets, shields and plastic weapons they could wear and Huo Cuiping of Naperville was all giggles as she donned a horn helmet for a photo.

Sunday's parade starts at Anderson Boulevard and Center Street, and proceeds to State Street, then east to Third Street and south to the Metra station. For information, visit genevachamber.com.
